If SSA offices are closed, will I still have my hearing?
Yes. At this time, Administrative Law Judges (ALJs) are only able to conduct hearings by telephone until the Social Security Administration resumes its standard operations. Hearing office staff will contact you or your representative in advance of your scheduled hearing to confirm your availability for a telephone hearing and ensure we have your accurate contact information.
Are claimants required to have their hearing by telephone?
No. Telephone hearings are not mandatory. When the Social Security hearing office staff contacts the claimant or their representative in advance of the hearing, they may ask the Social Security Administration to postpone the hearing until its resumes standard operations and can hold the hearing in the manner it were originally scheduled (i.e. in person or by video). When the Social Security Administration reschedules a hearing, it will send a notice providing the new date, time and place of your hearing. This notice will be sent at least 20 days before the date of the new hearing.
Are initial application for Social Security Disability and/or Supplemental Security Income still being processed?
Yes. Claimants can still file through their attorneys or on their own through the online filing system.
